The Brazilian government expects to receive from the United States, by early next week, a first draft of a trade agreement, Development, Industry, Trade and Services Minister Márcio Elias Rosa said Tuesday (3), according to Folha de S.Paulo.

The document would list the segments in which the Americans want access to the Brazilian market with reduced tariffs. According to the minister, this was a commitment made in late September, at the last in-person meeting between the two countries. "They are working on the document," he said.

He said he does not yet know which sectors will be requested and that Brazil will respond with a counterproposal, pointing out its own areas of interest.

Since July, two Trump administration tariffs have hit Brazilian products: one of 25%, for alleged unfair trade practices, and another of 12.5%, for alleged failures to combat the import of goods made with slave labor. Together, they affect 3,985 products, or US$ 10.8 billion in goods, according to the CNI (National Confederation of Industry).

Folha recalls that, earlier this year, the US sounded out a deal along the lines of the one struck with Argentina, which Lula's aides considered unacceptable.
